When you first power up the Vita you have to go through the normal setup process, setting time, date and things like that. In true Playstation fashion you can’t sign into your PSN account until you do an update. Because of this you have to sign in as a guest and then finish the rest of the start up process. You can’t do the update until you have done this which is a little silly. After that you update the system which takes a couple of minutes (nothing like updating the PS3 for the first time). After the update you can sign in and off you go. My Vita was about 80% charged so I could play for awhile before having to charge it again.

The interface is really nice and the touch is snappy and responsive. The icons are bubbles and looks very IOSish. You swipe up or down to scroll through the menu and hold down a bubble and they start to shake. From this point you can move icons by dragging them or delete them. There are certain apps you can’t delete (like the web browser but there are parental controls that allow you to lock it out.) Once you click on a icon a start menu appears and you have to click it to start the program. This is one thing I wish they cut out, why not go straight into the program? To exit a program click the Playstation button and it takes you out of it but it doesn’t close it. To do this you have to drag you finger from the top right corner of the screen and pull down like you are tearing off a sticker.

I had heard that load times where lengthy but I didn’t have that problem. The first time you put a game it will install the game and an icon on the screen. I’ve been playing Uncharted mostly and the controls work great, I love having the two thumbsticks. The game looks and feels like I’m playing on a PS3, the only downside I’ve found is the size. The size is great for playing games but it’s a little big to carry in your pocket. This is one thing I love about the 3DS is it fits nicely in my pocket but even with that I’m not complaining because the size is great when you are playing.

I was very excited when the Vita was announced and I have to say I am not disappointed. Hopefully this device will be supported by third party developers better than the PSP. As long as Sony has taken care of the hacking and illegal game downloads I think that they will. It’s a great platform and I am very excited about it future.

A bigger problem is the apps that Playstation advertises aren’t ready for the device yet, well at least they haven’t been released.  This includes the Netflix, Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare apps.  Now I know that all of these are third party apps and are out of the hands of Sony but even Sony’s own apps aren’t available yet.  The Vita comes with several AR cards to play augmented reality games but to play these games you need to download apps that aren’t on the store yet.  This to me is a huge fail on Sony’s part.  I’m ok with the third party apps not being available right away but games that come with the system not being available is crazy.  I know what some of you are thinking, it doesn’t release until next week and they will work then, yes this is true but why do an early release then.  Why let your die hard fans get their hands on something that isn’t totally ready.  Also this has been out in Japan for several months and don’t they have the same AR cards?

In the grand sceme of things it’s not that big of a deal.  It’s cool to finally get our hands on a Vita and it is really nice.  I wouldn’t be playing the AR cards now anyway because of Uncharted, which is amazing, but they should of had this part available when the Vita shipped.

I got a letter in the mail this week thanking me for being a Jaguars season ticket holder.  Included in the letter was a poster that included a list of the teams that the Jaguars would play at home during the 2012 season and it was only seven teams.   A note under that said that preseason teams and AFC North team was to be determined.  There was one major problem with that statement, the AFC North team isn’t to be determined.  If you know how the NFL schedule works every team plays the teams in it’s division twice and then one division in the AFC and one in the NFC.  That makes up 14 games of the 16 game season, the other two games are played againist teams from the other two divsions that finished in the same place.  With that being the case the Jaguars would play the Bengals from the AFC North.

Mr Khan has been very out spoken about his desire for the Jaguars to play in London and to expand their international appeal.  Which I’m all in favor of but not if it cost us a home game.  I understand that it’s one less game that the Jaguars have to worry about selling tickets but the season is already so short.  Just in case they do have a game in London though I’ve already started working on my wife for a London trip.

 Several years ago when the Jaguars changed their jerseys the alternative black jersey went away.  Well now it looks like it is coming back and will the Jaguars new primary color starting in 2013.  This would make the black jersesy the Jaguars home jersey with the teal jersey being the alternative jersey.  In 2012 Nike takes over the NFL jersey contract and all teams will have new Nike jerseys, however it will take a couple of years before all the teams get the “full Nike treatment”, the Jaguars will be the first to get this treatment.  

Nobody’s really sure what the new jerseys will look like but hopefully they will be more like the old jerseys than the current ones.  I always thought it was laughable when Mr Weaver said that they wanted a jersey that people would look at right away and would know it was the Jaguars, only to show off one of the most generic jerseys in the NFL.  The old jerseys had Jaguar logos on the sleeves and looked great but the new jerseys didn’t have the first Jaguars logo on it.  Mr. Khan has promised that we will not be disappointed in the new jerseys.  I’m sure hoping that he is right.

The idea of Arrived is interesting but what I wanted to use it for is to let me wife know when I went to certain stores. This is happened more than once in my house where I go to Wal-Mart or some store during the day only to get home and have my wife tell me she wished she’d known I was going there. To solve this problem I thought I would use this app to alert my wife when I go to certain stores. The one downside to this is the text isn’t sent right away. I’m sure this app checks every 15 minutes or so to see if you are at one of the locations and then sends an alert. The problem is by the time my wife gets it and text me back I’ve been gone for awhile. This isn’t necessary a faulty app problem but more likely the way it was setup. If it constantly checked where you were it would drain your battery.

This app does have some issues that are the app’s problem. The interface is clunky. It took me awhile to figure out how to delete someone from a location or how to delete a location. If you want to add someone to a location and you already have it setup for other people, then you have to add everyone again. However I think one of the biggest problems is there is no way to setup how to notify the person you are there. Take my wife for example, I have three numbers and two emails for her. With this app I have no way of saying to text her to this number or don’t text her but e-mail her. I contacted the Arrived people about this issue and they said it was something that they would look into.

I think this is a great idea and could become a great app but it needs some work before it’s ready for primetime. It is free though and worth checking out and watching for updates. If they could get the bugs worked out and get a better response time from when you arrived to when the text goes out I think this could be a must have app.

Khan laid out what the Jaguars wanted in a head coach, two of those things included being able to work with Gene Smith and not having a big ego. It appears that Jeff Fischer met none of those requirements. Fischer played the Rams vs the Dolphins to see how much control he could get. The Rams who didn’t have a GM in place ultimately won out. Mr Khan said the Jaguars were not willing to join that “derby”. Even at the press conference to announce Mike Malarkey as the head coach Mr. Khan made a comment about the coaching search not having any drama.

Like other fans I like the idea that Jeff Fischer may come to coach in Jacksonville. However after seeing everything play out I don’t blame the Jaguars for staying out of this one, plus while I think Fischer is a good coach his numbers aren’t that great. In 17 years as head coach of the Titans they made the playoffs just six times. I think in this case the Jaguars were right to look to someone else to be their man.

Mularkey has grown on me partly after hearing his press conference and mostly after hearing that Mel Tucker would stay as defensive coordinator. I think it puts Mularkey in a potential weird spot having Tucker, who was the interim head coach, still on the staff and what about Mel Tucker who was passed over for Mularkey. Now not only did he not get the job but he has to step down and go back to his old position as defensive coordinator. I say all of this to say hats off to those two guys for putting what could be uncomfortable situation aside and doing what’s best for the team.

Time will tell if this was the right move by the Jaguars. One thing is sure, Mr. Khan has the future of Blaine Gabbert, Mike Mularkey, and Gene Smith all tied up together. Mularkey’s contract expires the same time as Gene Smith’s. If Gabbert does well both of those guys will probably be around, however if he continues to struggle then in three years it could be time to clean house again.

Not that this is fair to Blaine but look at the Jaguars past. In the Jack Del Rio era this team has been average. Also in that time we have had two quarterbacks both who were average. Not since Mark Brunell and Jimmy Smith has this team had a legit quarterback and wide receiver. Because of this fans aren’t willing to give a new QB the benefit of the doubt and I’m not sure Gabbert would deserve it either.

This season our passing game is worst in the NFL and looks terrible. Supporters of Gabbert will point to the lack of receivers or the fact that Blaine didn’t have an offseason. However these are the same receivers we had last year with Garrard and they played much better. As far as the no offseason goes people treat it like Gabbert is the only person that missed the offseason, when the truth is everyone did. Cam Newton, Andy Daulton, Christian Ponder all missed the offseason and all have shown more that Gabbert.

While I may not be willing to label Gabbert a bust like some, I do think this team needs some insurance. The bottom line is the Jaguars will end up with a top five pick with some really good quarterbacks coming out. I believe the Jaguars should draft one with the idea if Gabbert doesn’t pan out in year two you have someone else. However if he does work then trade the other guy. If the Jaguars don’t and Gabbert has another year like this one we could loss three years and that could be devastating to a team trying to gain support in Jacksonville.

For what it’s worth I like Gabbert and hope he works out but I’m not willing to go down the Byron Leftwich road again. If you feel this isn’t the guy then it’s time to move on no matter if he’s a top 10 pick or not. How the Jaguars draft this year will show a lot about how they feel about Blaine Gabbert and the future of Gene Smith.

Then there is the parent section, in the section you create a special message from Santa. You will need a picture and some information like child’s age and what they want for Christmas. You can also choose to have them on the naughty list or the nice list. After the video is made you can download it to your phone or e-mail a link to someone to watch on the internet. My 4 year old loves watching the video and has watched it everyday for the past week.

While this app is nice it comes up short in many ways. Most videos you can turn your phone into landscape mode and watch them however the video you make from Santa you can not. Also the app is $2.99 and with that they allow you to download three videos but after that you have to pay. This is pretty lame. I could understand if the app was free but for $3 you should be able to make as many videos as you like. There are other apps that allow you to do this including one I will review shortly, Magic Santa. For $3 I would probably find another app but if you do download this one, your kids would enjoy watching the videos.

You might be wondering by now what this has to do with Apple or an iPhone. The Up plugs into the headphone jack of an iPod or iPhone and syncs with an app. This app then shows how all of your stats. The Up runs off a rechargeable battery which they say can last up to 10 days. The best part about the Up is if you can find one you can get it for free. The Up cost $99.99 but Jawbone has had problems with it and to show how much they want to stand behind their products they are offering a “no questions asked refund”. You get the refund and get to keep the Up, how cool is that? The problem is finding them. Amazon no longer sell them (expect for reseller who have marked them up), Best Buy has pulled them from the selves, leaving Target as the only place I could find them. Which isn’t going to change because Jawbone has stopped shipping them. They will be coming back out but I’m sure it will be after the new year.

I have three Targets near me and I went to all three and found several smalls, one medium and no larges. The large is what I need but I did go ahead and buy the medium because I was it looked like it might fit. After trying it on it does fit but is a little tighter than I would like. They will be very comfortable next week. Hopefully, if the vote goes the way we are expecting, I will be happy to elaborate on it. They will not be disappointed.

The “they” he is talking about is Jacksonville fans, so the question that all of us are asking is what does that mean? What would it take for us to be “comfortable” that the Jaguars are not leaving Jacksonville any time soon. I thought about this awhile and anything Mr. Khan says would not put me at ease. Not that I think that he would be lying necessarily but it’s what he would have to say until the team did move. So after much thought the only thing I could come up with was building a new stadium.

If he spent the money to build a new stadium, I wouldn’t be worried at all about the team moving. I’ve been to several stadiums and Everbank is one of the worst designs. The stadium itself isn’t in bad shape but it’s just not designed very well for a NFL stadium. Do I think this will happen, well in a word no.

If I was him there would be no way that I would build a new stadium plus there are all kinds of problems that go along with trying to do so. So what is he going to do? If he’s not going to build a stadium then maybe spend money fixing up the one we have now. Better audio, a video board, and WiFi throughout the stadium would be nice. Everbank is terrible for using your cell phone, forget about Tweeting anything from the game. There are also some small things that could be done like making the club section of the stadium smaller. These seats are the hardest to sell because of the price but on the bright side they don’t count for a blackout.

These are things that I could see happening. However would it make fans comfortable that the team wouldn’t leave? Well it would help. Then fellow Jaguars fan Casey Ayers made a guess that makes a lot of sense. Here’s what he said via Twitter,

Yup. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a Flex-N-Gate plant announcement with 400-500 jobs, either. Given Toyota’s proximity could be cost-saving or at worst a wash, & being 100% company owner makes it easy.

This would change one of the biggest worries most fans have about Mr. Khan and that’s he does not have any ties to Jacksonville. This would put his company and him in the community and stir good will by creating jobs as well.

I guess we will have to wait until Mr Khan tells us what he had in mind. I for one am very excited about the future of the Jaguars in Jacksonville.

After running the app all of your contact that were matched up will then show up with their Facebook profile picture. To update the pictures you have to run the app again. The other big part of this app is birthdays. This app will also pull in birthdays from your Facebook friends. If you allow notifications you get an alert when it’s someone’s birthday.

This app is a pretty simple app but it does a good job. The syncing process only takes a couple of seconds even on 3G. It’s .99 in the app store and if you like to have your contacts updated then it’s worth it.

The app does many of the basic things that you would think that it should like see who’s online playing, check messages, and send messages. You can also see your achievements and compare them to your friends. While doing this you will notice unlike other apps this app shows your avatar with motion much like the dashboard. There are also videos from the dashboard that you can watch. Most of this stuff has been done before by third party apps, the main thing this app does that others didn’t is allow you to customize your avatar. Just like from the dashboard you can dress your avatar or change their appearance all together.

Overall I like the app and it will replace what I was using to do the same thing. There are somethings this app doesn’t have that I wish they would of included like being able to schedule downloads of demos or being able to purchase games and have them download when you start your Xbox up. These are some of the things you can do these things from the xbox.com. Something I would love for them to do is to have the ability to join a Xbox party from your phone. This is something that they should be able to do and would take the social part of gaming to the next level. Maybe that’s something that will come out in a later update. For now the app is free and if you own an Xbox it’s something you should have.

The Jaguars here don’t get much love and the organization doesn’t seem to care. Games haven’t been on the radio for several years and this Monday Night Football game showed up on the last page of the sports section with a small column. If a game doesn’t sell out though Savannah gets blacked out but why is that? According to a NFL.com article on the Bucs problems it says

According to NFL rules, home games must be sold out 72 hours before kickoff to avoid a TV blackout within a 75-mile radius of the local market. Teams can ask the league for a 24-hour extension if the game is close to selling out.

Savannah is 139 miles from Jacksonville. Almost double the distance that would be included in their local market.

Back to the radio for a moment, how hard is it to find a radio station that would carry the game? That is something that has stunned me for years. They are on the radio in Jesup and I believe Hinesville but you can not pick those up in Savannah. Of course you can listen to them over the internet. This usually isn’t a deal for me cause I have season tickets and go to the game. I have friends that had season tickets for several years and then canceled them. You know how many calls they have gotten to come back? Zero, none nada. I bought Atlanta Thrashers tickets once about six years ago and I got called at least once a year every year.

I know Jacksonville is a small market and the fan relations department of the team is pretty small. So the Jaguars need to work smarter. I tip my hat to them for the Champions Club and using fans that want to help the team. I did that one year and it was a lot of work but I enjoyed it. However even with that our “Champions Team” was made up of people from Georgia and we got basically no support. Teams from Jacksonville would get Jaxon or members of the Roar to show up at their events to sell tickets, we got a signed helmet by a third string linebacker that nobody knew.

I love the Jaguars and want not only to see them stay in Jacksonville but for it to be hard to get tickets to a game. I want to see them do extremely well. Nobody talks about Green Bay being a small market and hopefully that’s what we will end up with here. It’s going to take time, a whole lot of work and some changes in how the team markets to the Savannah’s and Orlando’s outside of the city limits of Jacksonville.

I have heard from several people who know Mr. Khan and I’ve only heard really good things. Mainly that he is a huge football fan and that the fans will love to have him as an owner. I know Everbank Field will be rocking Monday Night and it’s a shame that he will not be there to see it. There is suddenly excitement all around about the Jaguars, with some many new things happening. Mel Tucker will get his first chance to show if he should be the man here in Jacksonville and we start to say goodbye to Mr. and Mrs. Weaver. Owners that I have had the privilege to meet a couple of times and who I have a lot of respect. Here are Mr. Khan’s comments on not being able to at Monday Night Football.

The Daily Planner shows your kid’s schedule for the day. In my case my high schooler has four classes and when I click on a class it gives me all kinds of information about that class. I get the teacher’s name, his or her e-mail address, location of the class, and a quick glance at what the assignments are, grades, and attendance. This is good for kind of an overall quick look at that class.

The Assignments sections shows all of the assignments for every class. In the Daily Planner you would have to look for every class and you would only see the latest assignments for that class. However in this section all of the assignments for all of the classes shows up in one location. At the far right of each assignment it also shows the grade for each assignment. By clicking on an assignment you see what the total amount of points where, the day it was assigned and when it was due.

Attendance is pretty simple, it shows you how many times your kid was absent and if they have it down as an excused or unexcused absents. The Grades section shows you all the grades for the year. You can look by quarter to get an overview or reminder of what their grades were and you can dig down more and see all of the grades for each assignment. The Schedule section is pretty much the same as the Dailey Planner section with the exception that you can look ahead to what the schedule will be in the future. For example my high schooler has four classes the first two quarters and four different classes the last two quarters. I could look and see what classes she has the last two quarters, along with who the teachers are and their e-mail.

The app works well and like I said if you have a kid in a school that uses Process Portal then you should pick this app up. One thing that I learned is there is a difference between a student login and a parent login. The information is the same but if you have two kids in school and use the student login then you have to log out and back in to change students. Also with a student login you get an ID that you can’t change and it’s a long number. However with a parents ID you can pick your login and all of your students information is there under one login. There is a button in the top right that allows you to pick what students info you want to see. This is very helpful. Of course it’s only your kids that show up under the app. You can’t go check how your kids friends are doing in school. The app is free and worth checking out.

The game is free but like other games like this they do have ways of making money. Certain characters takes Snoopy dollars to be able to buy. These are different than the Snoopy coins you collect from the booths. From what I’ve seen so far the only way to get these is to level up and when you do that you get $2. The first character you can buy with these Snoopy dollars is Linus which is $30, (most of them are $20 or $30 with Woodstock being $75.) You can earn the money to buy these but as you might guess it would take a long time. The other way to get Snoopy Money is to buy them (with real money). For $4.99 you can get $50 Snoopy dollars and it goes up to $99.99 for $2,000 Snoopy dollars. These are done as in game purchases so you would need to have your iTunes password to be able to buy them. The reason I say that is to say that a kid playing this game couldn’t accidentally buy Snoopy dollars and as long as they don’t have the password they couldn’t buy them at all.

The game also has a social feature. It ties into to either or both your Gamecenter account and Facebook account. This way you can see other friends you have playing this game. Once you add a friend you can go see their fair and give them gifts.

The app also features some mini games like Snoopy trying to make lemonade, making Snoopy jump into piles of leaves and several others. There are also a couple of other cool features like being able to read some Peanuts comics and taking a picture that makes it look like Snoopy is kissing you.

Overall the game is a time waster but one of those that I find myself getting pulled into. Maybe because me and my daughter try to see who can level up the most (without spending any real money.) It’s fun and if you are a Peanuts fan something you probably want to check out. For free even if you only play around with it for a couple of minutes it’s worth checking out.

Overall I think this type of game is perfect for the iPhone. It’s easy to play, works great with touch controls but yet is challenging. Like other games that are similar it is easy to get addicted to this game. The game is free so check it out.

The pictures come out looking great and it is a great app. However at $3.99 it is a little pricey. I would watch for it to go on sale but it is an app that I would keep an eye on and try to pick it up. Even if you picked it up at $3.99 I think most people would be happy with it.

The game is free but like Farmville this game allows to speed things up by buying (with real money) Smurfberries. Using Smurfberries will make crops grow instantly and the same with building houses or bridges or whatever else you may want to add to your village. You don’t have to buy Smurfberries to play, it will just take you longer to build up your village.

One more thing about this game that I like it that it does tie in with you Facebook account and you can visit any of your friends Smurf Villages or just visit a random village. Overall the game is pretty fun but mainly a time waster but for free it’s worth trying out. So download load it and start having a smurfing good time.

Even though the Jaguars lost, the game was still fun. I did get a little worried near the end that if the Jaguars won the game, that I might have trouble getting out of there. The fans were getting a little annoyed that the Jags were driving the ball down the field. All in all though it was a blast and hopefully I get to it again.

I picked this game up for $.99 but it has gone up to $1.99. I would stay it’s still worth it if you like puzzle type games like Tetris or Bejeweled.

Rasheen Mathis was placed on IR this week and is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. Unless the Jaguars put the franchise tag on him could walk and go find a new team. So why wouldn’t he leave? After all it seems that the majority of fans have turned on him. To most fans they see him getting burned a lot. What they don’t see is that it’s not always his fault and in fact a large amount of that time it’s the safety’s fault. The fans however don’t see this so they put all the blame on Mathis and want to start the next guy, who in this case would be William Middleton. Make no mistake this is a huge loss to a team with the fourth best defense in the league.

Mathis was drafted in the second round of the 2003 draft by the Jaguars and has been here ever since. In his career he has 30 interceptions, the most in Jaguars history and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2006. Hopefully Mathis, who is 30, will return to the Jaguars next season but it doesn’t look too good. If it is the end of his time here he will be missed, even more so when the Jags play the Steelers.

I have played all of these and they are all great pickups at .99. I’ve reviewed World of Goo and am working on Peggle. Shadowgun I am still playing but will review it when I get done. For a quick review, if you like Gears of War pick up this game. How is that for a quick review.

I might would of given up on this series after the first couple of episodes if it wasn’t for my friends pushing me to continue. I’m not saying that they weren’t interesting but it didn’t hook me at first. After finishing the season thought I’m hooked. Most of the first season was like watching a train wreck, you want to look away but you can’t. The decisions he makes and the trouble he gets into because of hiding things is interesting to watch. To make things even more interesting in the story his brother in law is a cop and his job is going after drug dealers.

The series is on Netflix streaming so I would recommend checking it out. I will say this there are some disturbing things that you see you if you are easily bothered or upset I might would stay away from this one. The show comes on AMC so there is some cursing but they don’t get carried away with it. Overall I liked the first season and since the next two seasons are also on Netflix I will be checking those out as well.

I know most of you who read this blog do not live in the Savannah area but do a quick search for your local newspaper and see if they have an app. If they don’t they should because of people like me. I don’t have a subscription to the newspaper and haven’t ever had one for long. I don’t like the way newspapers are and hated having to remember to grab them every morning. However now with this app I have been reading the paper every morning and as long as the price doesn’t get to much I will continue reading.

Most of the game you play as Frost or Yuri, this makes it easier to follow the story and seems to give it more of a flow. The story isn’t going to wow you but it is a decent story. This series has done a couple of things well, the first, have lots of tension and incredible scenes, this game isn’t any different. The other thing this series does well is mix up the levels. Between driving boats, sniping, running and gunning it, or trying to sneak around, this game mixes it up enough that you are never bored or get that been there done that feeling. My only problem with the game is I felt that they over used the slow motion action scenes. In games past those were some of the epic moments but I felt like they went to the well too often in this game.

It will be interesting to see where the next Modern Warfare game goes with the story or if this is it. Because of somethings that happen in the story I get the feeling this is the end of the Modern Warfare series as we know it. I’m not saying the end of Call of Duty just the Modern Warfare part of the series.

Maybe because I’ve gotten too use to it but I don’t remember a ton of language but I’m sure there was. There are some scenes that could be disturbing, nothing as bad as the No Russian mission in MW2.

It’s a Call of Duty game and with that you know that some of the achievements are going to be very challenging. In one play through on normal I got a little over 300 points.

There are some flaws to this game, like once I needed to help Max get this other guy across a body of water. In the water was a gator so he couldn’t fall into the water or he would be eaten. My first thought was easy enough a boat, however Max would get right into the boat but the guy would get on top of it and fall off once it started to move. This is one of the problems of the game. There is no reason why the boat shouldn’t of gotten them across but it just wouldn’t work. This flaw though is small and not something you run into often. Overall the game is great. It’s $4.99 in the app store now and worth it however if you are on the fence you may want to watch for a sale. I’m sure with all the holiday’s coming up there will be tons of app sales happening. With that being said I bought it at full price and don’t regret my purchase.

I have had some issues with the app freezing or forgetting where I was on restart. Also in one TV series I was watching it always wanted to load an episode that I had already watched, it was always the same episode. So you get some weird things like that but the app is free and is something you should download and check out.

The game is based in Arkham City, a part of Gotham that has been walled off keeping all of Gotham’s criminal masterminds inside. The city isn’t huge but it’s big enough to take a few minutes to get from one side to another. One of the great thing about Batman are the villains and Arkham City makes use of some of the different villains that didn’t get used much or at all in Arkham Asylum. I don’t want to give away who is in the game or any of the story line but I will say this, I loved the story. The main storyline of the game I thought was great and since I don’t want to give anything away I’ll leave it at that.

The big question about a single player game is how long is the campaign and is there replay value. If I had to guess I would think the campaign is about eight hours long. Also once you beat the game you can play through again with all your weapons upgraded and the enemies are smarter. Like Arkham Asylum there are Riddler challenges that add to the game play, that alone adds hours to the game. Also there are still challenge rooms were you fight bad guys and in rounds and get scored for how well you did. These rooms can get pretty challenging to get your score up and can get pretty addicting trying to do better than last time. New to this game are the side missions.

The side missions in this game will get you pretty distracted. I know I played for a couple of hours one night and didn’t advance the main story at all. They are mixed in and you stumble upon them. If you buy the game new you also get several Catwoman missions. These were nice but I didn’t enjoy these near as much as the rest of the game. In fact at one point I was wondering if I could skip it and get back to Batman. They did do a nice job though of making Catwoman different with different skill sets than Batman. You may have gotten across one room one way with Batman but have to rethink it playing as Catwoman.

This game is great. I don’t say that about a lot of games but so far this is the most fun game that I’ve played this year. I would say it is a must play and a game that you should buy.

Batman keeps it classy but some of the thugs well not so much. The violence in this game isn’t too bad as most of it are fist fights and even when guns are used there is no blood. The language of the bad guys is pretty bad. I don’t think I ever heard an F bomb dropped but just about everything else seemed to be fair gain. Harley Quinn also makes several sexual jokes that might just slip right by you but they are there.

For completing the story and doing some side missions I got 390 points. It’s not terrible on achievements but you are going to have to work to get them.

The app uses the geo location of the pictures to fill in the place. For example the front of one of the travel cards says “Wishing you were here in ……” The default says Paradise but as soon as you pick a picture that changes to where the picture was taken. The inside of the card has some default wording that you can charge or add something to it. It reads much like a standard card.

Once you are done making the card you can fill out the address from you contacts and for $2.99 have it printed and shipped, which I did. I got an e-mail once it was shipped and received the card within a couple of days. One thing the keynote showed was that you would get a text when the card was delivered however I never got that. The card looked nice and the lettering on the envelope was also nice. Overall I like the app and would use it to send cards from time to time. The app is free so worth downloading and trying out.

I tried this out once when I was meeting my wife for work. She could see where I was and watched me pull into her parking lot at work. It came in handy that I didn’t have to go in to get her because she knew I was already at her building. The app is free and so is the service so it could be fun to play around with for awhile. Like I said this app is a really cool idea but one that right now I don’t have much of a reason to use. However if you meet people a lot it could be a very handy tool.

I sent my wife a postcard just to see how the card would look and was pleasantly surprised. The card has the picture and the message on the front but also has the message on the back of the picture. The picture is perforated so that it pops out of the postcard but still has the message on the back of the picture. This is a great app for sending grandparents or friends quick pictures from a trip of something special. .99 isn’t a bad price either to have it printed and shipped. Mine was made within a day and I received it in five days. The app is free and is an app that will stay on my phone.

Until recently this was one of the few if not only app that allowed you to watch a television channel without some sort of service (like signing in with a cable plan or a pay service like Netflix or Hulu Plus) I’m sure the fact that Steve Jobs had a lot of pull at ABC really helped to make this app happen. NBC now also has a simular app and hopefully the others will follow ABC’s lead. The app is free and great if you like some of the shows on ABC.

The World of Goo is a physics puzzle game, in which your job is to use blobs of goo to build a structure. This structure is built to get the other blobs of goo collected by leading them to a pipe. The game starts out pretty easy but gets challenging. The structures are built by dragging a piece of goo and attaching it to the current structure to extend that structure out. What you have to be careful of is not extending it too far without some kind of support. What you are tempted to do is build the structure out to get to the pipe with as few moves as possible however if you do this the structure will collapse. So you need to make sure that while building you also use some of the goo to build support for the structure. You do need to be careful not to build too much support though as to pass every board you need to collect a certain amount goo drops. If you use too many in support then you will not have enough to pass the board.

This game is a blast and is one of those games that even though it is a port, works better on IOS devices. There are several must own games and this is one of them. The app is $4.99 and worth it but it has dropped to .99 before so you might want to keep on eye on it for a sale.

Another major problem with this app is there is background music that gets kind of annoying. There is a button to mute the music however you have to do this every time you turn the page. This was clearly an oversight and something that needs to fixed in an update.

Overall the app has flaws but it is free. My daughter liked the story but it’s not an app that she goes back to very often, so if you liked the story of Henny Penny when you were little then you should check this app out.

The idea here is simple, find a picture of your child and crop their head so that it can be inserted into the book. After inserting the picture the fun begins. Sit down with your child and read the book, which along with the story has a good use of motions, and watch them light up as not only their name is used but also their picture. I have a four year old and she loves these books. The stories are on par with other books that my daughter likes. The first book is free and after that they are priced on a scale. If you sign up for subscription they are $3.99 per book with one book coming out every month and $7.99 to buy them one at a time.

Like I said my daughter loves this app and because the first book is free it’s worth checking out.

This app offers over 100 different layouts, many different tiles that you can download, different backgrounds and leaderboards. Some of the tiles are pretty cool, ranging from numbers, cereal boxes, to old movie posters. Once you beat a board you get a fortune, like from a fortune cookie.

Like I said I’ve spend many hours in this game and still go back and play it all the time. It’s one of those games that’s always fun to pick up and play. The app is .99 and well worth it.

The big announcement was how Siri was included in the iPhone 4S.  Siri is a voice recognition software that understands what you are asking it to do and does it.  This feature looked really cool.  In the video they showed a guy jogging and telling his phone to schedule an appointment for 12 with someone.  The phone comes back and tells him that he already has an appointment at that time.  One of the coolest looking features of Siri happened while driving home a guy tells his phone to remind him when he gets home to pick a present.  As soon as he pulls into the driveway a reminder pops up telling him to pick up a present.  If this works as good as the demo shows, then this alone is worth upgrading to get.

Overall for me this is a no brainer upgrade but remember I’ve currently got a 3GS.  If I had a iPhone 4 I would probably stay put until the iPhone 5 comes out.  The iPhone 4S looks just like the iPhone 4 and the upgrades are nice (Siri being awesome if it really works that well) but I’m not sure that it would be enough to make me want to upgrade.

So what do I want out of the new iPhone?  Well the first thing I want I am guaranteed to get and that is a better camera.  Even if the new iPhone has the same camera as the iPhone 4 it will be an upgrade for me.  From there voice controls would be nice.  It’s my understanding that Android phones have this and it’s something that I would love to have.  For those who don’t know what I’m talking about imagine riding in the car and telling your phone to text a friend and then telling the phone the text message.  The phone then reads it back to you and once you’ve ok it the message it is sent.  With this control I also want built in GPS.  I want to be able to say “find a mexican restaurant close to me” and have the phone show me a list of all the restaurants that match that description and give me turn by turn directions to get there.   These features would be what I want in the new iPhone.

Some of the other things I would want I know is going to happen, like the phone being faster and more powerful.  I have no doubt that it will look great and even if it’s the same look as the iPhone 4 I’m fine with that.  The one more thing that I want I would love and it would also hurt me in the resell of my 3GS, is that Apple is doing away with iPods and iPhone will now cost what iPods cost WITHOUT a contract.  There would be one phone that works on Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint or you can use it as an iPod with no data or voice plan.  That is a long shot but would be amazing if it happened.

As far as a new iPad, well I don’t see it happening this year.  I don’t know why Apple would push out another iPad, instead of waiting until next year.  Pushing back the iPhone made sense because nobody really cared as much about the iPod event.  I mean the iPod and iPhone are basically the same thing and if I get my wish they would be the same thing.  I see the iPad coming out next year in February or March like it has in the past.  This gives Apple a big announcement twice a year and I think that’s what they want.

I know come tomorrow I (along with millions of others) will be watching a live blog to find out all the detail of what the iPhone will be and when it will be available.  It’s a great day to be an iPhone fan.

I use this app when I’m not sure if I want to get online. I check to see who is on and what they are playing without having to fire up my xbox. Also I use this to check my messages and because it’s easier to type, I send most of my messages this way. If you play Xbox online much this is a must have app. The app is free but there is a $1.99 upgrade. The upgrade gets rid of the ads and has some added features, like being able to look at a friends, friends list, people who you have recently played with, and send a message to more than one person.

When my four year old started playing this game she didn’t know what rhyming words were but after playing for a short bit picked up on it. She now can go through the rhyming part of this game pretty quickly and not miss one. To add to the game there are also games with words that start with the same sound, end with the same sound, or have the same sound in the middle.

If you have a little one who likes Dora, this game is a must. It’s very much like the learning games they play in the cartoon. My four year old loves it and plays it all the time. It has helped her learn words that rhyme and words that start with the same sound. We have used it to help teach her what letter words start with. As of this post the app is $1.99 in the app store.

This may not be shocking news but the fact remains that the Gabbert era has now begun. Gabbert now takes his place in the short line of Jaguars starting quarterbacks. The question is will be successful and beloved like Brunell or will he be so-so and have the fans ready to run him out of town like Leftwich.

This also builds up what I’m sure will be called the rookie bowl, with Gabbert and number 1 overall pick Cam Newton, starting against each other this weekend. It will be fun to watch and see how these two young and promising quarterbacks play this weekend. It will also be interesting to see how Gabbert plays the rest of the year and how the Jags fans take this news. Will they look it as a lost season or will most fans see it as an exciting time to be a Jaguars fan? I guess we will get some of our answers this Sunday.

The offense killed the defense, not the Jets offense but the Jaguars’. McCowns four interceptions made the defense’s life very difficult. Three of the interceptions were on the Jets side of the field and one was taken to the one yard line. So not only is the defense on the field all day but the Jets had great field position.

Going forward if the Jaguars can get the offense worked out then the defense has been looking really good. After the first week they were leading the league against the run and I wouldn’t be surprised if they still were after week two.

I for one think that it should be for good. McCown is your starter only because the Jaguars think he gives them the best chance to win. However if he plays like he did this week then Gabbert should be the starter. You can stomach Gabbert struggling because he’s a rookie and has great upside but McCown doesn’t have upside. Also look at the next three games, on the road against the Panthers and then at home verses the Saints and Bengals. None of these three teams have great defenses and two of these games you should win no matter who starts. It would be a nice way to get Gabbert starting before the Ravens and Steeler games.

We will have to see if JDR goes back to McCown or starts the rookie. As of now he is only saying that they will talk about it as a staff. My guess would be we will have an answer by Tuesday and if it’s Gabbert there’s no going back.

The Jets are one of the best defenses in the league but they made the Jaguars offense look like a high school team. McCown couldn’t get anything started and threw 4 interceptions on the day. The worse part is they left the defense out on the field in bad situations. Garrard who was watching the game with Patrick Ramsey in North Carolina had to be smiling.

For the day McCown ended up going 6/19 for 59 yards no touchdowns, 4 interceptions, and a saftey. With that performance McCown posted a whopping 1.8 quarterback rating (158 is perfect). His best play was a tackle to save a touchdown. He was replaced in the fourth quarter by rookie Blaine Gabbert and one has to wonder if that was the last we will see of Mr. McCown.

You can play this game with one finger, really and it’s still a blast. The idea of the game is to see how far you can survive. This part of the gameplay is much like Monster Dash in that the character is constantly moving forward and you have to fly over or under things. There are scientist you have to get by, laser beams that you have to miss, missiles shot at you and much more. What makes this game nice is there is enough different things in the game to keep it from getting repetitive. Also there are challenges in the game like run 500m without collecting any coins or collect so many spinning coins. Also you will find these little grey boxes in the game that are power-up suits. These range from a metal bird, flying dragon or a frog looking thing.

The game is $.99 and well worth it. If you haven’t tried Monster Dash or other Halfbrick games I would highly recommend them as well. Halfbrick does a really nice job of making games that work well for iOS platforms.

I will have the over the air channels and Netflix.  Netflix will get a work out as my 4 year old likes to watch TV while eating breakfast but after breakfast none of us watch much TV.  It will be interesting to see how I do with not have the NFL channel this Thursday when the first NFL game comes on and I will not be able to watch it.  I could always go to a buddies house to watch it, which would be more fun anyways.

Then there is also the fact that last season some thought McCown outplayed Garrard. This preseason it is hard to say that only because McCown has played with the second and third string. However the Jaguars have three touchdowns this preseason and McCown has two of them. Then there is the fact that McCown came into this game as the second quarterback. Why would Jack Del Rio do that? It seems like you would want Gabbert to get all the playing time he could unless you were giving McCown a chance to make you comfortable with getting rid of Garrard. Of course JDR would never say this but nothing else makes sense. Gabbert should be your number two because he’s guy you are working to get ready to get into the lineup.

It may seem like a crazy thought and maybe it is however remember Byron Leftwich? The talks that Garrard could start and Leftwich could be out sounded crazy until it happened. It makes to much sense not to even think about it. I guess we will find out for sure early next week or over the weekend.

Stitcher has both an iPhone and iPad app and both look and work great. The app streams the podcast but it cache them pretty quickly if on Wi-Fi. To add a podcast you search for the name of that podcast and add it to your favorites or if on your iPhone make a channel for that podcast. For example I listen to lots of tech podcast, so I could make a tech channel of all my favorite tech podcast. I like this but what I don’t get is on the iPad those channels aren’t there. This is a nice feature but the fact that the channels don’t sync up across platforms is a deal breaker for me. So instead of making channels I add everything to my favorites channel, which does sync across platforms. If you wanted to make channels on your iPhone, you can add a podcast to more than one channel so that it would show up in favorites and your custom channel.

Stitcher will also recommend podcasts. So I’m listening to the Gamers with Jobs podcast and Stitcher lets me know that I might like DGRadio podcast, Uncle Gamer Radio or Rebel FM. It looks like they get this information by what other listeners listen to in the gaming category that also listen to Gamers with Jobs. Of course you have to have a social tie in nowadays and Stitcher has that as well with Facebook and Twitter. Also an option to email a friend a the name of a podcast you’re listening too that they might want to check out.

Like I said I listen to a lot of podcast and really like the way I can go between iPhone and computer when listening. I have had the iPhone app crash on me and lose my spot in the podcast however that only happened once and I’ve been using it for awhile now. If you listen to podcast then this app is worth checking out.

Stitcher in iTunes

The feature I like and why I got this app is by clicking on a name you can see their stats over their career and an outlook for the upcoming year. Also in this screen you can check them as drafted on your team or just that they were drafted. This is great when drafting because you can then filter by available players.

Once the drafting starts, press the My Team button and it shows you players that have been drafted on your team, sorted by position, and then bye weeks. Very handy for making sure you have a backup with different bye weeks. There is also a depth chart button that shows all the NFL teams and their depth charts. Also a search feature that searches for players and gives news on them.

I started not to buy this app because of several bad reviews but since it was the only one at the time that did most of what I wanted, I took the gamble. After my draft I was very happy with my purchase however there are a few features I would like to see added. The main feature is the ability to add the different teams in your league. Now the way the app works is a player is on your team or other team. I like to keep up with what team has drafted who and what positions. This comes in handy later in the draft if you know everyone has a quarterback but not running backs. If I know this I might take the gamble that the quarterback would last another round and go ahead and take the running back. Overall all though I was very pleased with this app. This app also can be used on the iPhone but I didn’t use it there, so I’m reviewing it only on the iPad.

That was one of the reasons I thought Garrard would start and have a good year. Other move obvious reasons for Garrard to start would be he knows the system and has experience. Gabbert needs time to learn the playbook and get use to life in the NFL. Like or dislike Garrard he’s a decent quarterback and good enough to lead the Jags one more year.

Like I said this was my thought process going into training camp. Now fast forward to today and the Jaguars have played two of the four preseason games. The first one Garrard missed because of back problems and Gabbert looked pretty good for a rookie. He made some bad throws and the timing was off with some of his passes but that’s what you would expect.

The second game of the preseason Garrard looked terrible. He over threw Lewis a couple of times and threw two ball up for grabs, one of which was way overthrown and intercepted. Not that Gabbert looked a lot better in the game however if Garrard is going to struggle why not start Gabbert.

They are going to make the move soon or later so why not now? If you are Jack Del Rio then you may not want to make the move unless Gabbert out plays Garrard. Like Garrard, Del Rio is fighting for his coaching future. However I don’t see him getting fired for starting a rookie quarterback and struggling at the beginning of the year. I would however see him getting fired if he started Garrard and faded at the end of the year like years past.

If Gabbert starts or not I think is up to him more so than it is Garrard. In these last two games if Gabbert plays well he very well could be the opening day starter. Also I guess if Garrard plays like garbage in the last two games that could also push Del Rio to start Gabbert. Either way Garrard’s future as the starter of the Jaguars maybe shorter than most of us originally thought.

The app has many stores already loaded into it but even if the store isn’t in the app you can list it as other and put your info into it.  A couple of things I’ve noticed using this app, first is if they don’t have a hand scanner it will not work.  Food Lion for example only has the flat scanners and I never can get it to work there.  Also it works much better if you rotate it to landscape mode.

That’s all I’ve ever used this app for and believe me that alone is worth it however the app does more.  When you click on a store, let’s say CVS, on the bottom is an info button that will give the number to customer service, CVS’s home page, and a store locator.  Also under the extra’s button you can check into Foursquare and then there’s a deal button that, well you guessed shows you deals that they store may have.  I don’t use these features so I’m not sure how well they work.

This is an app that I would say is a must have for all iPhone and iPod owners.  No longer do I have all of those plastic tags hanging off of my keychain (I never liked them but the wife would keep putting them back on my keychain).  The app is free.

When you can access it, this app will allow you to start and bench players, add, drop and claim off of waivers, accept or reject trades, it has live scoring, push notifications for injuries, and scoring updates, news and allows you to post to the message board.

I love ESPN the channels but whoever handles their IOS apps needs help.  One thing that got me very upset is that I bought this app for $4.99 when it first came out and then the app went to free.  I was fine with that except that they added ads to make it free and when they did that my app started to get ads as well.  So I paid $4.99 for an app that later added ads.  They should either refund my $4.99 or not put ads in my app.  They are now doing the same with the ESPN Radio app.  Also this app says it’s iPad compatible but it’s an iPhone app that will run on your iPad. Between that and the hard time logging into the app I would stay away from this app.

With this app you can manager your fantasy football team with Yahoo, ESPN, or NFL.com. I have a league with ESPN and last season I used the ESPN app and wasn’t happy at all. I am very impressed so far with what I have been able to do with this app. This app will allow you to edit lineups, automatically set lineups, search for players, add and drop players, trade players, check live game scores, check weekly matchups, read and post to message boards (most of what I’ve used this app for so far), view latest transactions, team notes, standings and rosters, check player news, injury reports and sports headlines. So as you can see you can do almost anything that you could do on the website.

This app is on both the iPhone and iPad with a paid and free version. The free version has an add that is so annoying that you can’t wait to get the paid version. From what I’ve used of it so far, I really like it. I will update this review once I’ve used it for a couple of weeks but right now I’m thrilled to have found this app.

When I saw this app I was curious how it worked and mostly how accurate it was, so I ran a test. I did a search for myself and I was the first person who came up. Well my middle name was wrong but my parents names were right. The results I got back where mixed.

When you search for someone, one of the first things that comes up is a list of their family members. My list did have my Mom, Dad, Sisters, Brother, one Uncle and one Aunt (I have 9 aunts and uncles), grandfather, wife, father-in-law, mother-in-law and grandmother-in-law. Then it also gave me the names of my ex-wife, her husband, her mother, father, uncle, grandfather, and someone I’m not sure who it is. Missing from this list of names where my children.

My age was right but I haven’t lived at the address they showed for over four years. My current address did show up in the previous address section. As I said earlier my middle name was wrong but under aliases they had my correct middle name listed.

This is were I would be very leery of this app, under criminal it had listed several possible matches that had me being arrested for drugs, causing a bomb to explode, and discharging a firearms. None of these were me.

I’m not sure why you would want to use this app except for being curious or maybe to do a background check on someone is around your kids, however I would not trust the information given in this app. Since I knew my information I was able to sort through what was right and what wasn’t but there was a lot of incorrect information. If for some reason you really need a background check ran on someone I would suggest doing it another way.
