#114 Just Lose Baby

| Posted in Jaguars Podcast |

Monday Night Football is always fun but this one got ugly near the end of first half and all of the second half. This week I talk a little about the game, the Jaguars new owner Shahid Khan, and how losing is the Jaguars best option. That is never something as fans we want to say or even see happen but at this point it hurts the Jaguars to win games. I talk about all that and more in this weeks podcast.

Mr. Khan will not be at Monday Night Football

There are still tickets to be sold for the Monday Night Football game against the Chargers. As fans one thing we were asked was to come out and show Mr. Khan what kind of fans were in Jacksonville. Now we get word the Mr. Khan will not be there. To be fair he has a meeting in New York the next morning with the NFL Finance Committee.

I have heard from several people who know Mr. Khan and I’ve only heard really good things. Mainly that he is a huge football fan and that the fans will love to have him as an owner. I know Everbank Field will be rocking Monday Night and it’s a shame that he will not be there to see it. There is suddenly excitement all around about the Jaguars, with some many new things happening. Mel Tucker will get his first chance to show if he should be the man here in Jacksonville and we start to say goodbye to Mr. and Mrs. Weaver. Owners that I have had the privilege to meet a couple of times and who I have a lot of respect. Here are Mr. Khan’s comments on not being able to at Monday Night Football.

“I sincerely appreciate Wayne Weaver’s invitation to me and my family to join him for Monday night’s game against San Diego. I was ready for some football.

“However, the best thing that evening is for me to be in New York to focus on the NFL Finance Committee’s meeting scheduled on Tuesday. And, above all, I feel that Monday night should be about three important people in the Jaguars family – Mel Tucker and, of course, Wayne and Delores Weaver. Mel and Wayne and Delores each fully deserve our love, attention and enthusiastic support on Monday night. This moment is for them.

“The Jacksonville community has been simply terrific since our announcement on Tuesday, and my entire family is extremely appreciative. I am aware of the supportive letters, calls, emails, Tweets and even T-shirts, and your kindness is truly appreciated. It’s exactly what Wayne promised us when we expressed our commitment to Jacksonville and the Jaguars, and I can’t wait to finally meet everyone in person later this month. In the meantime … Go Jaguars!”

Shahid Khan to buy the Jaguars

According to Tania Ganguli, Shahid Khan is the person buying the Jaguars. So the next question would be who is Shahid Khan? Well according to Wikipedia Khan was born in Pakistan and is a graduate of Illinois School of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. He now owns Flex-n-Gate which makes bumpers for cars. He tried to buy the Rams but lost out when a minority owner decided to buy them. It does seem like at least for now Khan wants to keep the Jaguars in Jacksonville but with no roots here you do have to wonder how long that will last. From what I hear the lease on the stadium would be pretty hard to get out of for the next many years. However if you had enough money it could be done. For that we will have to wait and see. I have no idea what kind of owner Mr. Khan will be, my only thought is Fred Smith sure would of been easier to say.

Jaguars are being sold

Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter are reporting that the Jaguars have been sold. Also the Jaguars twitter feed put out an announcement that team employees have been told as well. As far as who the new owner is, who knows. The easy guess would be Fred Smith who bought into the Jaguars and was interested in buying them before. The good news for us fans is that the team is not moving. I’m sure more information will come out at the press conference that is scheduled at noon today.

#113 Hit the Road Jack, oh wait he already did

The Jags dropped another one this week, losing to the Texans 20-13. This week I skip talking about most of the game because it was announced today that Jack Del Rio has been fired. You know what that means, I need new intro music. It also means that the will be changes happening in Jacksonville and hopefully for the better. Now I guess all the talks about who is going to be the next coach can officially start. In the meantime Mel Tucker will be the coach for the rest of this season. I talk about this and more in this weeks Jaguars Podcast.

Podcast Problems

One of the most frustrating things about doing a podcast is when something goes wrong and you have no idea why it went wrong, such is the case for me right now. For some reason my RSS feed decided not to work but I have no idea why. To make it more frustrating in the right corner it shows how many post are in that feed and that number is right. However no posts show up under the feed. There is a podcast up for the Browns game that you can download and list to but as of now it will not show up in your feed. I’m going to continue to try to work and figure out what is the problem.

UPDATE: I think that you should be able to down load it now in iTunes. Please let me know if you can.

UPDATE #2: I think I have it all fixed now. If you are still having any issues please let me know. Thanks

My trip to Cleveland

This week I was able to travel to Cleveland to Browns Stadium and watch the Jaguars play. I was a little nervous at first because I had been warned by a couple of different people to watch out for Browns fans. While that maybe true in some parts of the stadium, where I was sitting the fans were really cool. They have a really nice stadium right on the lake. The weather was also nice, which was a shock to me. I had bundled up ready to be really cold. It was pretty cold walking to the stadium but once inside it was nice. The downtown are there is nice, you could walk from the football stadium to the Indians stadium, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and where the Cavs play. It’s a cool area that I would of loved to spent more time.

Even though the Jaguars lost, the game was still fun. I did get a little worried near the end that if the Jaguars won the game, that I might have trouble getting out of there. The fans were getting a little annoyed that the Jags were driving the ball down the field. All in all though it was a blast and hopefully I get to it again.

#112: I Survived Cleveland, the Jags Didn’t

This week the Jaguars and myself traveled to Cleveland. The game was much better than the matchup last season but the end result not so much. I talk about the game, how Blaine Gabbert is improving, and the crazy Brown’s fans.

Remembering when :Fred Taylor 90 yard run

I was goofing around today and come across this youtube video. I remember this game and this run because we were running late to the game and when we got to our seats someone else was sitting there. It seems that they had fake tickets and where escorted out of the stadium but by the time this all got taken care of and we took our seats this happened. It was right in front of us too as our seats were on that ten yard line.

The beginning of life without Rasheen Mathis?

He has become on of the most picked on players on the Jaguars roster. Fans have seemed to turn on him and forgotten what a good player he was and still in reality is. Well those fans who said the Jaguars would be better without Rasheen Mathis will get there wish for the rest of this year and maybe forever.

Rasheen Mathis was placed on IR this week and is an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. Unless the Jaguars put the franchise tag on him could walk and go find a new team. So why wouldn’t he leave? After all it seems that the majority of fans have turned on him. To most fans they see him getting burned a lot. What they don’t see is that it’s not always his fault and in fact a large amount of that time it’s the safety’s fault. The fans however don’t see this so they put all the blame on Mathis and want to start the next guy, who in this case would be William Middleton. Make no mistake this is a huge loss to a team with the fourth best defense in the league.

Mathis was drafted in the second round of the 2003 draft by the Jaguars and has been here ever since. In his career he has 30 interceptions, the most in Jaguars history and was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2006. Hopefully Mathis, who is 30, will return to the Jaguars next season but it doesn’t look too good. If it is the end of his time here he will be missed, even more so when the Jags play the Steelers.
